The history of AICC RCOG & Past Chairs
OUR STORY
The Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG) works to improve women’s healthcare across the world. We’re committed to developing the accessibility and quality of education, training and assessments for doctors wishing to specialise in O&G.
The All India Coordinating Committee (AICC) RCOG was formed through the concentrated efforts of Professor Tarun Banerjee. During the Presidentship of Sir Anthony Alment a fact finding team led by Mr. George Pinker, then vice president of the RCOG visited India in 1979. The other two members of this team were Mr. Robert Atlay and Mr. Derek Tacchi. Following this visit, the AICC and the Zonal Representative Committees were formed in 1981.
The initial AICC meetings were planned at the annual FOGSI Conference. In 1985 the first AICC RCOG conference was held in Calcutta and was inaugurated by the then president of RCOG, Sir M McNaughton.
